Improve Your Child's Behaviour During Tutoring Sessions


It's no secret that most children would rather be playing games than sitting through tutoring sessions in subjects that they find particularly challenging. Your tutor will try to make each session as entertaining for the child as possible while increasing the productivity of the lesson, but the child must also be able to exhibit good behaviour to get most out of each tutoring session.

Talk to your child about his language tutor a few times before the session begins. Make sure that he knows that this tutor is in his corner and wants to help him improve. Also let the student know that you are very proud of the work that he is doing so far in the subject. Positive attention is a great way to pre-empt negative behaviour.

Be very clear about what you expect from him during his sessions with primary school tutors. Specificity is key. For example, if you expect him to have his phone or other electronic devices turned off for the session, that should be discussed at length. If he is allowed to use it as part of the session, set rules on its use. Otherwise, you may have a student totally tuned out for the session.

Discuss the consequences of misbehaviour during a session with one to one tutors. For example, if a child talks distastefully to his tutor, you should explain what the punishment for that will be. Be consistent and follow through if he breaks the rule. Setting boundaries is a wise choice to maximise each session.

Primary school tutors are trained to deal with a wide variety of personalities and challenges. It's inevitable that there are occasional bumps in the road because no kid is perfect, but rest assured that the tutor will be able to get the session quickly back on track. As long as you do your best to prepare your child for the learning experience with one to one tutors, he will likely get a lot out of the experience and soon be able to master the subject matter with renewed confidence.
